Stop & Shop has relaunched its Freshness Guarantee, offering shoppers double their money back if they think a perishable product is past its prime.

Customers with an item that falls short of their expected freshness and quality standards can return it at any of the 400-plus Stop & Shop stores in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York and New Jersey and receive a refund for twice the product’s price, the Quincy, Mass.-based chain said this week. The policy covers items purchased from a Stop & Shop store’s meat, seafood, produce, dairy, bakery, floral or deli departments.

Stop & Shop’s Freshness Guarantee allows us to show how committed we are to providing our shoppers with the freshest products,” Stop & Shop President Gordon Reid said in a statement. “We want our customers to shop us with confidence, and this program makes it clear just how important it is to us that we deliver the highest quality standards across all our stores.”

Shoppers can return a fresh product at any Stop & Shop store, regardless of the location where it was originally purchased, the company said. To get a refund, customers need to present the product, package and/or receipt.
