Price Chopper’s Market 32 opens in Oxford, CT
September 20th 2016 marked the grand opening of Oxford, Connecticut’s brand new Market 32 grocery store by Price Chopper. The new supermarket, a necessity that Oxford residents have been waiting over a decade for, is the anchor to the town’s new Quarry Walk shopping development and town center. The $70 million dollar development will house more than 200,000 square feet of retail space as well as 150 apartments and will be home a Newtown Savings Bank, Dollar Tree, Ace Hardware and many more.
This is the companies first “ground up” Market 32 store to ever open in Connecticut. Price Chopper plans to grow the brand up to 135 stores over the next decade. 10 stores have been built since the plans were announced earlier this year. The supermarket is designed to be able to serve any type of customer. With a wide variety groceries, they have options for those who are planning just a quick trip to the supermarket to get food for dinner or for those who want to shop for the entire week. Former CEO and vice chairman of the board, Jerry Golub, says “the freshness of the foods offered at the market is a priority for the company” (Ctpost.com).
First day shoppers were surprised at the quality of the food and excited to have a new option for groceries nearby. Town resident Audra Santerre said, “It (Market 32) actually has a lot more than I expected, a lot of gourmet-style stuff. I thought it was pretty awesome” (Ctpost.com). Many other shoppers noted the new stores fresh food and spacious aisles as some of their favorite parts.
The grand opening of Market 32 in Oxford marks the start of a new grocery brand that will be popping up in many towns throughout the state of Connecticut.
