Geissler’s Supermarket held a grand reopening at the end of February at its store in Agawam, Massachusetts.
In July, Geissler’s began the remodel of its Agawam location. The project entailed moving every grocery aisle and produce refrigerated cases throughout the store to make way for a new deli and kitchen that doubled in size.
Family meals, sides, pizza, wings and sandwiches have grown deli department sales. The addition of a new smoker has allowed new offerings, such as grab-and-go ribs, wings and pulled pork items.
The store added a new kiosk popping fresh popcorn, kettle corn and caramel corn, along with a variety of other flavors. The produce department also saw the addition of a new juice machine for fresh squeezed orange juice. The bakery grew and a new service chocolate case features locally made Munson’s chocolates, truffles and other treats.
“We are thrilled to unveil our renovated store to the Agawam community. It took many long hours, major adjustments and dedication,” said Bob Rybick, Geissler’s CEO and president. “We thank our customers for being so patient and understanding as all of this was done to better their shopping experience.”

The company was founded in 1923 by A.F. Geissler, delivering groceries to the small village of Broad Brook in the Town of East Windsor, Connecticut. Geissler’s daughter, Mary, married Jim Nilsson, who took over and expanded the business into a multi-store independent chain. Today, there are seven locations in the New England area. The Nilsson family still owns and operates the Geissler’s stores.
