The CDC announced a new advisory for vaccinated Americans, stating those fully-vaccinated may stop wearing masks and social distancing in most indoor and outdoor settings as of May 19.
Upon inquiry the message CFA received from the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development is that: “effective May 19th masks are only required for unvaccinated people indoors.”

Effective May 19th:
- End all business restrictions
- Outdoor masking is no longer required but recommended at large events
- Indoor masking required for unvaccinated
- Fully vaccinated not required to wear masks indoors in most cases per new CDC guidelines
We have asked DECD for written confirmation and a public statement from the Governor’s office as to their new mask plan.
While Connecticut has generally followed the CDC’s lead with past Covid-19 guidelines, it’s important to remember food retailers must continue to comply with local and state law — despite potential public pressure.
